Hi, Hat Accessories
A hi hat (or high hat as it is also known) is a simple but essential piece of music equipment for any professional musician. A hi hat is an arrangement of two hats (pedals and cymbals) mounted on a simple black stand, with a thin metal plate covering the lower edge. It’s part of the basic drum kit used widely by drummers from many different styles of music, including rock, rap, classical, and alternative. It’s also commonly used in jazz. There are variations to the basic design which allow hi hats to be incorporated into other genres, such as reggae.
In the early years of its development, the hi hat was often made from metal or wood, but these days they are made from carbon fibre or Kevlar. Hi, hats are made to order using a single colour paint. This allows them to blend in with the look of a different music genre. Hi, hats have become so ubiquitous that they’re now used in clubs, but they are also used on stage during live performances by artists from all over the world. Some even use their hi hat soundboard as part of their stage costume!
The heyday of the hi hat is probably from the late sixties and early seventies – when a new generation of musicians, mainly influenced by the Beatles and artists like Bob Marley, started to use hi hats during live shows. It was then that the image of a rock star with his own band and a large audience cheering him on became firmly established in the public consciousness. The style has remained strong throughout the remainder of the eighties, with musicians such as lead guitaristsping and licks, and even the drummers themselves, adding to its enduring appeal.
